Update: Sheep Get Their Fence

By: Rob Harris

Three months ago we wrote about the discussions playing out in the LaQuinta area of the California desert, as environmental groups seek to protect theĀ theĀ endangered Peninsular Ranges population of bighorn sheep. Like many of us, the sheep find themselves attracted to the local golf courses; the sheep, however, face traffic, drowning and disease perils as they make their way from their natural habitat to contoured fairways. Perhaps more significant, lambs that graze on fairways in proximity to one another suffer from respiratory illness resulting in death.

In the face of threatened litigation, the LaQuinta city council has announced plans to erect a fence at one of the impacted courses, SilverRock.
