Yale Restoration Is Really Happening

By: Rob Harris

On occasion, I exercise my control of the microphone for a matter of personal privilege, and this is one of those occasions.

At long last, finally, after years and years of discussion and the occasional false start, the Yale Golf Course–my refuge and alternative to a therapist’s couch for three decades–is proceeding with a major restoration.

In a press release issued this afternoon, Yale has formally announced the retention of Gil Hanse “to create an architectural restoration master plan for its iconic Charles Blair Macdonald and Seth Raynor designed Yale Golf
Course.”

For the few readers who are unfamiliar with Mr. Hanse, he is viewed by many as the industry’s leading restoration architect. Congrats to all involved, especially Peter Palacios, Yale’s general manager, who has been directing Covid-impacted operations from the parking lot since his arrival in mid 2020.

Now, having shared the good news, where will I play golf for the 2 years of the restoration work?
