Golfer Koji Kakinuma was standing on the 12th hole tee box at New York’s Sprain Lake Golf Course when a sprinkler unexpectedly went off, knocking him to the ground and damaging his eyes. As reported, “he’s suffered post-vitreous detachments in both eyes, acute iritis and acute hemorrhaging in his right eye,” and “suffers from floaters and light flashes that affect his vision and has an increased risk of developing cataracts, glaucoma and retinal detachments.”
These allegations made their way into a lawsuit that he brought against Westchester County, owner of the public course. The case recently settled with the county agreeing to pay $70,000.
