State Legislature Intends To Lower Taxes Imposed By Local Government On High End Golf Clubs

By: Rob Harris

According to a published report, the Virginia legislature is poised to overrule the local government in Arlington County with regard to the property taxes levied on Washington Golf and Country Club and Army Navy Country Club.

Lobbyists working for the clubs appear to have convinced the legislature that the golf courses should be taxed as open space, rather than as residential developments.

Local Arlington officials, as well as the Virginia Association of Counties, argue that the state should not intrude on local taxing matters.
